Frequently Asked Questions:

⬛ PUPPY BASICS & FIRST WEEK HOME

When can my Frenchie puppy go home?

In Pennsylvania, puppies cannot leave before 8 weeks by law.

At Franceschi Frenchies, we prefer puppies to go home between 9–12 weeks, ensuring proper development, confidence, and socialization.

If a family needs additional time, we offer extended-stay care at $25/day.

What should I prepare before bringing my puppy home?

We provide each new family with a personalized preparation list. Essentials include:

  • A properly sized crate or playpen

  • Harness (never a collar)

  • Stainless steel bowls

  • The food your puppy has been raised on

  • Toys and enrichment items

  • Puppy pads and cleaning supplies

  • Cooling mat (recommended for French Bulldogs)

How does the first week typically go?

Expect a week of learning and adjustment. Your puppy will thrive with:

  • A consistent feeding and potty routine

  • Supervised exploration

  • Naps throughout the day

  • Gentle introductions to new rooms and sounds

We provide lifetime support. You can contact us anytime with questions.

Is crate training recommended?

Yes — crate training helps build independence, reduces accidents, and provides a safe, calm space for your puppy. We guide every family on proper crate setup and scheduling.

⬛ FEEDING, TRAINING & DAILY CARE

What food do you recommend?

We send each puppy home with the food they’ve been raised on. If you decide to switch brands, we’ll give you a safe transition plan to avoid stomach upset.

How often should I feed my Frenchie puppy?

Typical schedule:

  • 8–12 weeks: 3 meals/day

  • 12–16 weeks: 2–3 meals/day

  • 4 months and older: 2 meals/day

We personalize feeding schedules based on your puppy’s metabolism and growth.

How do I start potty training?

Consistency is key:

Immediately take your puppy out after waking, eating, and playing

Reward each successful potty trip

Keep a predictable schedule

Avoid free-roaming until the puppy proves reliability

We provide customized potty training guidance.

Can French Bulldogs handle exercise?

Yes — well-bred French Bulldogs (with correct structure) can enjoy walks, play, and short adventures.

Avoid:

Intense exercise in heat

Overexertion

Long outdoor exposure in hot or humid climates

We will guide you on safe activity levels.

What is BOAS in French Bulldogs?

BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) is an airway condition affecting some short-muzzled breeds. Symptoms include snorting, wheezing, overheating, or tiring easily.

Learn more in our education article:

Understanding French Bulldog BOAS

Do all French Bulldogs have BOAS?

No. While the breed is brachycephalic by nature, BOAS is not inevitable.

Risk depends on:

Nostril openness

Soft palate length

Skull and muzzle structure

Tracheal diameter

Breeding quality

Body condition

We breed specifically for healthy airways and strong respiratory structure.

How do you reduce BOAS risk in your program?

We select breeding pairs based on:

Balanced muzzle proportions

Wide, functional nostrils

Correct soft palate length

Proper tracheal structure

V-1 rated conformation

Documented generational health

This is a pillar of our program.

How do I know if my French Bulldog's breathing is normal?

Healthy breathing is:

Quiet

Low-effort

Comfortable at rest and during mild activity

Signs needing attention:

Snorting

Excessive panting

Heat intolerance

Gagging or retching

Slowing down during walks
